From my Queen'sU inbox this morning:

February 27, 2012

Congratulations!  We are delighted to offer you a Residence Don position for the upcoming 2012-2013 academic year.  This selection was based on your application, references, and performance in the group and personal interview.  We look forward to seeing your contributions in creating strong communities in our residences.

HOLY SHIT, I'M NOT WORTHLESS!
;askdlfa;da

I don't care that he's being sarcastic; this comment from my brother on facebook is the best thing in my life right now:
"Your coolness is immeasurable."

I AM FULL OF FEELINGS~
I have travelled! This post is a bit late, since the trip was actually yesterday, but I was so zonked by the time we got back that anything I tried to type would have turned out rather like: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

So we simply had to eat there. Jamie ordered bitterballen, which I've never had before. They were kind of like meatballs, with a crunchy outside and a really mushy inside - not so much my thing, but I can see how they'd be really popular pub food.

And finally, after the meal, we hopped back on a train to Groningen. On the way home, we made the acquaintance of another Dutch student - she was very friendly and we ended up buying cookies together. It still amazes me how people are so friendly here. In Toronto, no one really talks to each other on trains - friends, yes, but it would be really strange to start having a conversation with a perfect stranger. But here, it's really not a big deal to strike up a conversation with whoever is sitting next to you on a train. IDK if I would ever be brave enough to do that, but it's interesting to think about.

TL;DR, Utrecht had absolutely lovely scenery, and I'm so glad I got to go. Next weekend, life premitting, some other housemates and I are planning to go to Leiden for a day. Hooray, ease of travel in Europe! :D

Photos posted hopefully later tonight at DUTCH MY LIFE.

* Or jography, as Jamie pronounces it.
HAHA!

QDC JUST DANCE 2011 = MY LIFE ♥

I can't believe dance is over! There is a gigantic gaping void in my life now, where dance class used to be, and I can't believe that it's all gone by so fast.

Recital was a huge success! :D I haven't gotten much audience feedback (parents don't count; I think they were more preoccupied with my haircut), but on Saturday, the crowds were amazing, and being on stage felt amazing, and the other dancers were amazing, and it was all ~so beautiful~ ;asldkfjals;d I AM WHELMED BY THE AWESOME!

alors on danse~ )
I wish we could all just dance forever. ♥________♥

*I keep wanting to make self-deprecating jokes about people seeing me in my underwear, and then I remember that for Videodance, my costume was underwear, so it's a bit late to be worrying about modesty, I guess.
This is a post all about eighteenth century French literature! Because reading Diderot is just... LOLWUT. But it is not a srs!bznz post because a) LOL THE BOOK IS WRITTEN IN FRENCH, WHAT IS THIS READING COMPREHENSION YOU SPEAK OF? and (consequently), b) my summary of the book is basically as follows: two guys ride around and talk about their sexcapades.

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK. :DDDDDD

Let the record show that: 1) If I am looking up fanfiction for Jacques le fataliste, it is only because DIDEROT TOLD ME TO. Or, rather, he was all "I DARE YOU TO DO BETTER Si vous n'êtes pas satisfait de ce que je vous révèle des amours de Jacques, lecteur, faites mieux, j'y consens." WHICH IS BASICALLY THE SAME THING.

2) "Tu es mon serviteur, quand je suis malade ou bien portant, et je suis le tien quand tu te portes mal." (p.118) ;LASKDJF;LASKDJFAS YOU GUYS WHY IS IT SO ~BROMANTIC ;ASLDKJFA;LSDF (There are other examples, but I am too lazy to type up a whole paragraph of French js.)

3)... THAT IS SOME NICE BROMANCE YOU'VE GOT GOIN' ON THERE, DIDEROT.

Jacques: Bonjour, ladies.
Look at your Maître. Now back to me. Now back à votre Maître. Et encore à moi. Malheureusement, il n'est pas moi. Mais s'il ne prendrait pas une prise de tabac en regardant l'heure qu'il est, he could act like he's me. Look down, back up. Where are you? You're camping in the French countryside with your Maître. What's on your mind? I have it! It's a history of the time I learned sex didn't have to be in the missionary position. Look again. The woman is now on top! Anything is possible si c'est écrit là-haut.
Son Maître: I'm on a horse.

SOMEDAY, I WILL ACCEPT THAT NO ONE APPRECIATES BUTCHERED FRANGLAIS OLD SPICE MEMES*. UNTIL THEN, YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO PUT UP WITH ME.

*Also, why have I not been able to find one for The Eagle? STEP IT UP, FANDOM. :D
Well, I'm back in Kingston. Pleasantly surprised to find that the apartment is a) still standing, and b) relatively clean. Right now I'm just taking a minute to be slightly overwhelmed by the amount of work I've neglected over reading week: not merely readings, but also a lab report (I think I need to scrap what I have so far and start over again, because things are looking wonky, arrgh), a German assignment, and the part where I have until Friday to make a decision about going on exchange.

Thankfully, with the power of To-Do lists, I have Plans, which will hopefully allow me to take the stick out of my ass so I can pretend to be Normal. Also, coffee. There is nothing that cannot be conquered by the addition of More Caffeine.

The weekend was totally worth the imminent stress, though. On Saturday, I slept in (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was glorious~), baked banana bread and hung out with Eden before having dinner with the grandparents. Later, Chloe came over and we skyped [livejournal.com profile] cherishedsaulie  and watched the vlogbrothers until two in the morning. I HAVE BEEN CONVERTED. Extremely belated though I am, ;alskdjf;asd I have oodles of love for them now. Today, we had the relatives over for Oma's birthday lunch. I do not think my waistline was helped by the entire table of chicken rice/chow mein/salmon OMG I devoured, but I'm reminding myself that university fare starts again on Monday, so it's completely justified.

OH AND BY THE WAY, WHITE COLLAR EP 2.14 IS THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER OH MY GOD IT IS LIKE FIC ON TELEVISION.

One last tidbit and I'm done: THE EAGLE - NOW IN LATIN
ICH BIN HOME! Also still feeling the alcohol from last night, but whatever. Going to beddddd now, oh ye. :D
Well, I am once again back in Kingston. %UHHHHH. I want to say it wasn't as painful as last year, but I can't remember last year, so I won't. (Hey, kids. Chances are, if you're rating your feelings about going back to uni after a break as "painful", it's probably not the place for you. Too late now, though. Onwards and upwards!)

The break was marvelous, though.Read more... )

That's what I want to remember from the break. Fun times with friends and family, Oliver's head warm and heavy on my shoulder, the twins yelling at David and I to build the damn snowman already, Eden's loud and ridiculous proposal in the middle of the street, plotting Inception fic with Nav in Starbucks, being surrounded with so many amazing and brilliant people (I love you all ♥)... and just that winter break was awesome.
YO INTERNETZ, BEEN A WHILE. (Ok, I mean it's been one day, but it was a REALLY LONG DAY since the internet decided to crap out, city-wide, WTF. How do you even do that?)

Things that have happened in the last week or so:

Out for dinner:
Mom: Oh my God, this sushi is so good.
Sarah: Yeah. Like. Orgasmic.
Grandma: Do you even know what orgasmic is?!

Most of my marks are out! :D I PASSED ECON, HOW AMAZING IS THAT? They must have belled the exam something wicked, though, cause seriously, I was just guessing randomly for 75 out of 80 questions. Linguistics was also higher than I expected (thank goodness~), although French was not as fantastic as I had hoped for. I really wanted a 90, but whatever, I will live. Haven't gotten Health102 back yet, but PSYC, OMG. OMFG. I FUCKING PWNED IT. By which I mean both my uber-inflated mid-term mark and the ricockulous* belling of the final exam have made it so that according to QCARD, my final mark is 97%. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. The 14-hour study days paid off!

In terms of fandom... Some people write fic ([livejournal.com profile] thatdayismine , I'm looking at you bb!). Some people draw and paint and make icons (y halo thar [livejournal.com profile] cherishedsaulie ). I, apparently by virtue of being dropped on my head as a child, spend inordinate amounts of time making things like this.

AND SPEAKING OF ENTERTAINING and Sarah being an epic douchebag. Over nine thousand thank you's to M for her EPIC OSCAR-WINNING SKILLZ. TEARS. IN. MY. EYES. BB. For saving me from doom and destruction because I am a terrible flake and yeah. OMG, still giggling to myself about that phone call. "Have you seen Sarah today?" "Uh... no. I just woke up." (While I am lying right there on the bed, halfway through an epic episode of NMTB.)

PS:
AND NOW I'M COOL! (Don't mock our intellectual Greek love, baby.)

*David: Yeah, like, cause the word "dick" is in there but no one ever really thinks about it. (I think he's been hanging around me too much...)
