What ho, LJ-land! Things have happened since my last post - many Things, including but not limited to: two countries*, one exam, one epic Megaupload fiasco (? I'm still catching up on this) and Other Stuff which I will inevitably forget to post about, and that's fine. (But my God, I still haven't made my New Year's Resolutions yet - maybe on the bus Friday, with Hanna...)

UNDER THE CUT: Happy Discworld blather and POSSIBLE TMI re: food/body image/Sarah being just plain weird and annoying )
This is a post all about eighteenth century French literature! Because reading Diderot is just... LOLWUT. But it is not a srs!bznz post because a) LOL THE BOOK IS WRITTEN IN FRENCH, WHAT IS THIS READING COMPREHENSION YOU SPEAK OF? and (consequently), b) my summary of the book is basically as follows: two guys ride around and talk about their sexcapades.

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK. :DDDDDD

Let the record show that: 1) If I am looking up fanfiction for Jacques le fataliste, it is only because DIDEROT TOLD ME TO. Or, rather, he was all "I DARE YOU TO DO BETTER Si vous n'êtes pas satisfait de ce que je vous révèle des amours de Jacques, lecteur, faites mieux, j'y consens." WHICH IS BASICALLY THE SAME THING.

2) "Tu es mon serviteur, quand je suis malade ou bien portant, et je suis le tien quand tu te portes mal." (p.118) ;LASKDJF;LASKDJFAS YOU GUYS WHY IS IT SO ~BROMANTIC ;ASLDKJFA;LSDF (There are other examples, but I am too lazy to type up a whole paragraph of French js.)

3)... THAT IS SOME NICE BROMANCE YOU'VE GOT GOIN' ON THERE, DIDEROT.

Jacques: Bonjour, ladies.
Look at your Maître. Now back to me. Now back à votre Maître. Et encore à moi. Malheureusement, il n'est pas moi. Mais s'il ne prendrait pas une prise de tabac en regardant l'heure qu'il est, he could act like he's me. Look down, back up. Where are you? You're camping in the French countryside with your Maître. What's on your mind? I have it! It's a history of the time I learned sex didn't have to be in the missionary position. Look again. The woman is now on top! Anything is possible si c'est écrit là-haut.
Son Maître: I'm on a horse.

SOMEDAY, I WILL ACCEPT THAT NO ONE APPRECIATES BUTCHERED FRANGLAIS OLD SPICE MEMES*. UNTIL THEN, YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO PUT UP WITH ME.

*Also, why have I not been able to find one for The Eagle? STEP IT UP, FANDOM. :D

~*~FANSPLOSION IN MY PANTS~*~
HOOOOOOOOOOLY CRAP, I JUST FINISHED READING TERRY PRATCHETT'S UNSEEN ACADEMICALS, THE LATEST INSTALLMENT IN HIS DISCWORLD SERIES, AND I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT IT THAT THE MOST COHERENT THOUGHT I CAN MUSTER GOES SOMETHING LIKE THIS: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lj cut for your safety: none of this will make any sense unless you've read the book/are familiar with Discworld. Also, spoilers for Unseen Academicals, but you knew that already. )

*I am sure there are other people who respond to above-average levels of excitement in the same way I do. I just haven't met them yet.
**This paragraph is also technically a Tyranny.
OH HOLY FUCKING SHITBALLS.

YOU. GUYS. JUST.

I.

Well, I finished Kings of Clonmel last night, and HOLY ;ALSKDJF;ALSDHK;ASKLT;ASDJ;ALTJ;ASLDINA; I DON'T EVEN!!!!!

BEWARE: THE IMAGES ARE FUCKING HUGE BECAUSE I AM A N0OB AND HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO MAKE THEM SMALLER. JSYK.

SPOILERS (WITH VISUALS) FOR KINGS OF CLONMEL (RA SERIES) )

completely unrelated: I want the "France" part of this as my ringtone. HOW AWESOME WOULD THAT BE? Every time a call would come in: "SIDNEY CROSBY!! YYYYYEAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LES CANADIENS!!!!!! QUEL FILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (LOL if it went off in the middle of lecture. Oh, man. ;p)

EDIT: OK, I am the luckiest idiot EVER. Wikipedia tells me there are TWO MORE BOOKS scheduled for Flanagan's RA series. TEARS OF HAPPINESS RN.

Err.... another voice post to plague you (because I am somehow infinitely amused by talking at my computer screen). THIS ONE IS ABOUT THE AWESOMENESS OF JOHN FLANAGAN'S SERIES Ranger's Apprentice AND HOW THE EIGHTH BOOK WAS OUT IN CANADA AND I HAD NO IDEA BUT OH MY GOD IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND, LIKE, I'M ONLY DONE THE FIRST CHAPTER BUT IT IS BLOWING MY MIND BECAUSE MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER HAS APPEARED, OH GILAN, AND I LOVE HIM TO BITS AND PIECES EVEN IF HE DOES GET SHAFTED ALL THE TIME. AND THERE IS GOING TO BE AWESOME BANTER AND EPIC BATTLES AND MAYBE EVEN A LOVE INTEREST, AND THESE BOOKS TOTALLY EMBODY EVERYTHING I LOVE ABOUT THE 9 - 12 SECTION OF BOOKSTORES AHHHH!!!!! ♥ ♥

I got cut off at the end, but it was only me signing off anyway, so. (It's mostly just me flailing and sounding hysterical, tbh.)
SONOFAFUCKINGBITCH MY ENTRY JUST DIED!

BUT OK, I JUST FINISHED THE 7TH BOOK OF JOHN FLANAGAN'S RANGER'S APPRENTICE SERIES: ERAK'S RANSOM AND AS;DLFJKAS;LDF YES YES YES! I AM JITTERY LIKE A JUNKIE ATM AND SINCE THERE IS NO ONE IN MY HOUSEHOLD I CAN SHOUT AT, I AM FORCED TO CHANNEL MY FANGIRLING INTO THIS POST AND HOPE THAT LJ DOESN'T EAT IT AGAIN YOU FUCKSHIT DICKWAD.
SPOILERS FOR ERAK'S RANSOM, WHICH IS BOSS. JUST SAYIN' )

AND FINALLY: BUT WHAT DO YOU MEEEEEEEEEEEEEAN I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE EIGHTH BOOK? WHYYYYYYYYY, FLANAGAN, WHY?
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH It is stupid late. But I just got word that A;LSDKJFAIER;NADS THE SEVENTH RANGER'S APPRENTICE BOOK IS APPARENTLY OUT AS OF WHAT WAS TECHNICALLY YESTERDAAAAYYYYYYYYYY FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

(john flanagan, i can almost forgive you for your craptastically designed website. I NEED TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "Araluen" AND "Araluan" AND YOU ARE NOT HELPING.)

but still the high pitched squealing noise you hear, that would be me.
blame it on the sleep deprivation. i am stupid right now. :)

Also there is a crack!fic out there for the Sherlock Homes fandom AND IT IS ABOUT SNAKES ON A TRAIN! IT IS HILARIOUS AND I SHALL PROBABLY LINK TO IT SOON. BECAUSE IT IS SO MUCH WIN. :D
WALL-E!

That movie was SO CUTE and happy and beautiful, and sadly I think very indicative of the human race, and OH MY GOD I LOVE IT. Wall-E is adorable and ridiculous and amazing, and Eve was kickass and AWESOME. Although M-O was probably my favourite character. "Woah, woah, woah woah!" AND THE DEFUNCT ROBOTS WERE PRICELESS. ANARCHY ON THE CRUISE SHIP!

A++++ movie.

ALSO I READ THE TALES OF BEEDLE THE BARD. WHICH WERE ALSO AMAZINGLY AWESOME AND HAVE FOOTNOTES AND COMMENTARY BY ALBUS DUMBLEDORE; YES, YOU READ THAT RIGHT - ALBUS DUMBLEDORE.

Who is brilliant and funny and witty and sarcastic and dead.

NB: The line "humans inadvertantly choose the things that are the worst for them"* is to Harry Potter as "I wish I could quit you" is to Brokeback Mountain.

*paraphrased because I can't actually remember the exact wording

...um, also I might kind of be watching the BBC show Merlin. It is definitely a great outlet for escapism. Dragons and knights and subtext magic, oh my!

1. Niagara was awesome and fun. We explored a graveyard and went star-gazing and swimming. The food and weather were both fantastic and I have a new hat. Yay!

2. THe K9 unit was also extremely cool. Police officers Jim and Max showed us around. Jim's dogs were named Sonic and Juno, and Max's dog was called RIP (rest in peace). It should be noted that while Juno is trained to sniff out explosives and Sonic is trained to find the scent of live humans, RIP is trained to sniff out cadavers. Apparently Max keeps decaying human matter in a freezer. O.O

Ridiculous fun.

3. WATCHMEN. I read the graphic novel. Of course, my favourite character died. Again. (Sometimes, I don't know why I bother). BUT AWESOME. I really liked it, and I'm excited for the movie, even though the trailer sucked ass (as in, when I saw the trailer, I hadn't read the comic, so I had no idea of what was going on. It doesn't really say anything about the plot of the thing at all. I'd suggest reading the comic first.)

4. School starts on Tuesday.

It has been... a rather lengthly day.

I have no shortage of things to discuss.

Havemercy - so good.
AUGH HELP MEEEEEE!  I hate exams with an undying, unyielding passion. I'm no good at them. I spent the last two/three days (and partly nights) solid studying and my english exam was crap (but my french thing went ok for three hours of sleep), and now I'm really really nervous for bio, so instead of studying I'm revisiting the idea of the run-on sentence in this post. It's about a variety of stuff.

Status: Chem=DONE FOR EVER! (One down, five to go)

Notes: OKAY SO HAVEMERCY IS OUT ON THE 24th OF JUNE. I AM SO THERE. I AM SO EXCITED. OHMYGOD. SO GLAD I HAVE MONEY ON THE CHRISTMAS GIFTCARD.

HAVEMERCY. OH. MY. GOD.

*freak*

Also? Jesus, it's hot out. And buggy. I like winter because every thing's dead. I don't have to bother killing it because it's already dead and buried under numerous feet of snow. I don't like creepy-crawly things.

I am very very glad this week is finally over! Really glad. My gladness cannot be textually expressed.

Today, I ate more junk food than I did in probably the last two weeks. I skipped the assembly to hang out with friends and eat ice cream, then I went to the Athletes' BBQ to hang out with the girls' rugby team of '08 and eat burgers and chips. Then there was music which involved two cakes, cookies and coconut bread. The cookies were quite good.

After school, me and SC (whom I haven't seen in ages) went to see Indiana Jones. Think: George Lucas and Steven Spielberg working on one movie. Yeah. It was... well, let's just say I'm glad I went more for the company than the entertainment.

As a rather belated birthday gift, she insisted on buying me Guards! Guards! from the Discworld series. It was greatly appreciated, obviously. And I discovered that Stephanie Meyer has a new book out called The Host or something or that sort. My only response to this can be summed up as: AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!! >:-(

On the way home, we stopped at Ravina and played on the swings for a while. We also got rained on. It was awesome, swinging and talking, just something I've missed for a while.

My today was good :-) (and tomorrow, I'm making pancakes, assuming I get out of bed before lunch)

--> AND THEN: I watched some good ol' Jeeves and Wooster. OH MY GOD, Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry are so British  and proper and intensely, insanely awesome it's a wonder my screen doesn't melt from the amazingness of what I'm watching. P.G. Wodehouse FTW.
The following is a very concise transcript of my thoughts on Terry Pratchett's book Mort from the Discworld series:

DEATH! MORT! OHMYGOD! AND PLOT! STUFF! ROMANCE! INTRIGUE! AL;SDKFHASKDFHAKSDFH LOVE! CUTWELL! BINKY! AWESOMENESS!

"YOU THINK I'M DRUNK, DON'T YOU?" <3 DEATH!

AHA! T PRATCHETT IS MY HERO/IDOL/CURRENT CENTER OF MY UNIVERSE!
