What ho, LJ-land!

Ho-leeeee shit.

One week. One week, OMG you guys, where did the time go? This time next week, instead of answering questions about vacation accrual or filing invoices, I’m going to be in Holland, trying to catch a train from Amsterdam Schiphol airport to Groningen.

I leave on Sunday. I can’t even.

Um, you guys, we interrupt this broadcast to tell you that Jack Layton is dead. WTF. Hello, mindfuck. It somehow doesn’t seem possible, and yet. :/

(My flight doesn’t seem possible either, but man, I gotta start packing.)

PLUS ONE REC: Can't Go Back The Same Way You Came, Thor (movieverse), by Pell on AO3. THIS IS PERFECTION. IN WRITING. It is at once understated and heartwrenchingly brilliant, and you all need to read it yesterday. Like, it'll make you cry, it's so good.

a truing-up of accounts*

I keep meaning to post about specific topics or what I've been doing these last few days, but I'm always side-tracked either by HP fic (I'm on a serious binge right now, you guys. Unfortunately, most of what I mem'd in grade 7 is either deleted or crap) or by exchange obligations. (Also, I clearly haven't been on in a while, because I spent a couple minutes chuckling to myself at my icon. *facedesk*)
photos under cut )

That's pretty much it for now; parents are away next week, so I'm planning to slog through the 50+ tabs of X-Men fic I have open and actually, you know, catch up with the important things in my life, aka fandom.

*To my surprise, truing is a word.

in no actual order

1. [livejournal.com profile] cherishedsaulie , Oliver and I ventured forth to Canada's Wonderland today. It was great! We hit up lots of rides*, suntanned like bosses and generally had a good time**. I am super-sunburnt, but it was totally worth it. (Also, it was Oliver's first time on a roller coaster, hooray!)

2. HP7 in - count 'em - 6 days. I AM NOT READY. Part of me really wants a commemorative tattoo. The other, sensible parts are thoroughly beating that part over the head with Hogwarts: A History.

3. Oh my god, exchange, can you stop costing money right about now? Kthx. :/

*Including the merry-go-round, which we thoughtfully livened up by pretending we were riding along the rainbow road from the Thor movie. Few things in this world are as epic as [livejournal.com profile] cherishedsaulie 's and my twin cries of "For Asgard!" as the ride began.

**I also had fun doing a 30-second improv dance performance for cherishedsaulie set to Dancing Queen. Which I possibly wouldn't have done if I'd known the diving team was also watching. The guys' appreciative looks were nice, but mostly weird...

"Fascinating"

High school is officially over. I done gone and got my final TDSB report card this morning.

In Chicago, I attempted to stalk [personal profile] copperbadge went to see the Harry Potter Exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry... and I was extremely entertained thanks to the props and costumes, etc. I also became acquainted with a Brit named Geoffrey, and we bonded over general Harry Potter nerdishness, and Ron Weasley's preferred type of sandwhich. Fun times.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING  COMPLETELY AWESOME:

If you have seen Star Trek: Reboot, and if you liked it, and if you kindofmaybereally want something to read...
[profile] black_eyedgirl 's stuff is foremost on my rec list. Her writing is humourous and appropriately hot, and the way she writes the characters sends me flailing gleefully into my little happy place. Basically, if you like to see things done well, then go ye and check this out.
(PS: Her Bones is a real treat to read.)

the weekend, random notes on

1. Niagara was awesome and fun. We explored a graveyard and went star-gazing and swimming. The food and weather were both fantastic and I have a new hat. Yay!

2. THe K9 unit was also extremely cool. Police officers Jim and Max showed us around. Jim's dogs were named Sonic and Juno, and Max's dog was called RIP (rest in peace). It should be noted that while Juno is trained to sniff out explosives and Sonic is trained to find the scent of live humans, RIP is trained to sniff out cadavers. Apparently Max keeps decaying human matter in a freezer. O.O

Ridiculous fun.

3. WATCHMEN. I read the graphic novel. Of course, my favourite character died. Again. (Sometimes, I don't know why I bother). BUT AWESOME. I really liked it, and I'm excited for the movie, even though the trailer sucked ass (as in, when I saw the trailer, I hadn't read the comic, so I had no idea of what was going on. It doesn't really say anything about the plot of the thing at all. I'd suggest reading the comic first.)

4. School starts on Tuesday.

10 days: the countdown

It's Friday, August 24, 2007.

There are 10 days till school starts. If you look at it objectively, I guess it seems like a rather short time, but it's a whole week and three days away, and I still need to go back to school shopping (Yes! for an excuse to shop!). And, well, do stuff with friends, but that's beside the point.

Not that these entries ever really have a point, but oh well.

Got the school letter package today: I can't believe they canceled silent reading! What am I going to do? How will I study for tests? Or finish my homework? What will my excuse for reading in class be?! etc., etc..
But mostly "I thought they said silent reading made an impact on the "

I really hope I got all the courses I selected. I can't believe they only have one Bio teacher in the school.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this year. Not really because of the courses or anything, but partly because I always get like this at summer's end and partly because I really want to see just the general atmosphere of school again, what with half the TGym program starting at HCI this year. I think the dynamic will be... interesting.

And as a side note: anyone of the male persuasion is a complete and utter idiot.

Another side note: "... fucking Merlin up the arse." Most hilarious line of dialogue in a fic EVER.

hey, guess what?

It's almost the end of May. Which means it'll be June soon. Which means summer is sooo close. Summer = laughing, photos, friends, smiles, writing, shopping, swimming, fun, tanning, long drives, music, gratuitous trips to Starbucks, going crazy wild free!

AWESOME!

Yeh, but before that, there's a bazillion tests/assignments due. And I need to mail a letter to the States. Which means I should buy stamps... and edit it. Before I am thought of as a crappy correspondent. Yikes, vite, vite!
