someone remind me why i need an education?

>.<

anyway, instead of studying for my insane french test, finishing my health homework, working on the vid i promised V I'd have for Thursday, or even, y'know, sleeping...

I figured I should post about The Count of Monte Cristo while it's still fresh in my mind. I finished it while we were in Collingwood...

THAT BOOK WAS SO EXCITING IT MADE ME WANT TO BASH MYSELF INTO WALLS. <-- That's a very high compliment. TCoMC made me excited, made me giddy. It was like the perfect book: it had young, loveable couples; it had bad guys; it had angst (oh, God, did it have ANGST - Monte Cristo is so funny when he's emo); it had adventure and secrecy; it had historical intricacies which I didn't grasp; it had oodles of money; and most of all - most of all, it had vengeance and romance. Seriously, that book was AMAZING. I recommend it so highly that all I can do is flail and babble in an incoherent manner (and this is different from my usual conduct how? you may ask...)

Anyway, brilliance! Ok, spoiler time:

So basically when Dantes broke out of prison, I expected him to be more hardcore, after spending like 8 years in some creepy dungeon. But he was such a pansy!! And then I totally thought he would just kill the dudes right away and it took him about 2/3 of the book to get to Cadarousse. But whatever. Also, Monte Cristo was such an asshole to Bertuccio, but that's not all his fault, I guess. For the longest time, Bertuccio was a complete wet blanket, and that sucked because I really wanted to like him. But then he goes and pulls the whole "HARDCORE!" thing with Benedetto and Villefort, and I basically started applauding. Good one, Bertuccio, way to grow some balls.

When the Count met Mercedes as Madame Franz d'Epinay and they didn't immediately start steaming up the room with their intense and unyielding love (not that I expected them to, but a few smouldering glances, maybe?), I thought something was off. But it was so touching when Monte Cristo was like "well, ok then, Mercedes, love of my life, Imma go off and die now in order to save your son's life"  and she was all like "ya whatevs".

But then Albert apologized and Monte Cristo did some emotional action or whatever, and HE IS SO ADORABLY AWKWARD WHEN HE GETS EMOTIONAL! It made my day!
There was so much commentary to be made about this book. It was like all the characters were asking for it.

But my favourite part was Maximilien's "But I love her!"about Valentine, because that made me go "awww!" and I would have slapped Monte Cristo if she'd died. DUmas really had me there at the end when Maximilien drank the stuff right before he saw Valentine, and I thought he was dead, but THANK GOODNESS he wasn't, or that would have completely ruined the book. And then they got to live happily ever after, which caused me to jump around the room in joy. Literally.

Also, the part where Monte Cristo was like "umm.. ya, Haydee, ILU but I know there's aboslutely no chance in the world that you could ever love me ever at all even if I saved your life or anything, so I'm going to go and--"

Haydee: "wtf moron, would you like, get some intuition?"\

Monte Cristo: "--and since I know you'll never love me -- wait, what? Was that? Are you? DO YOU REALLY LOVE ME?!?!?!"

Haydee: "only like... since I was 11."
Monte Cristo: "JOY AND HAPPINESS AND HAPPY FLUFFY BUNNIES ALL AROUND"
Sarah: "SQUEE!!!!"
