Well, that was an eventful weekend! Not all in good ways, unfortunately, but c'est la vie. To be fair, everything but the ending was fantastic.
On Friday, I skived off tutorial to catch my bus to Ottawa. The ride was smooth, thankfully, and I got in with no fuss. Fatima met me at the terminal and we went back to her place for dinner and chillings with her housemates. Dinner was corn with some "secret spices" and it was sooooo good. There were also homemade muffins OM NOM NOM. (this was basically a weekend solely of food) That night, we also watched Catch Me If You Can. It was ...good, I guess? IDK not really my movie. Though I had fun making random Inception jokes that only I got.
On Saturday, we woke up and skipped breakfast In favor of going to a sushi buffet near Fatima's house. There was A LOT of food; unfortunately, sushi buffets are very much about quantity over quality. Still, it will satisfy my sushi cravings until reading week, which is what counts. Thus satisfied, we headed over to a discount mall of some sort near a bus terminal. The sales! I love sales! Bought two tank tops and a shirt, and zebra print underwear that I will wear if I am ever lucky enough to make it to another
ontd_skating meetup. After that, Fatima and I headed downtown to the Rideau Centre and the accompanying market, where we fell victim to eight-dollar slices of cake. She got the chocolate truffle, and I chose the blueberry lemon cheesecake. Holy shit, almost worth it. That cake was fucking delicious. Hhnngh.
After that, we wandered over to Carleton's Ice House to watch a hockey game between Carleton and McGill. McGill won, sadly, but we got to see one of Fatima's housemates play, which was exciting. (she got concussed, which was not so exciting, but she was fine.)
Sunday morning saw us downtown breaking our fast at a restaurant called Cora's. DEAR GOD, AU REVOIR BANK ACCOUNT. like. No entree under $10?! Hello, what of the student population? Although it was situated next to the Chateau Laurier, so I shouldn't be surprised. I had a giant brioche-thing with fresh fruit, eggs and bacon, which was delicious but gigantic, so I doggy-bagged the rest and today it will be my lunch.
After the breakfast to end all breakfasts, we traipsed over to the Rideau Centre for... More shopping! Only, we got distracted on the way there by La Librarie du Soleil, a French bookstore. I was tempted by their selection of French classics, but decided against it, since Fatima had given me Le Peau Du Chagrin the night before. (!!!) At the mall, I bought a winter wool dress-thing, and Fatima bought a shawl and a tank top. Success! It should also be noted that the only thing I paid full price for this weekend was the food.
After perusing the mall, we wandered up to check out Parliament. We didn't want to miss our bus, so we just wandered around the outside of the buildings, admiring the view (it was lovely and sunny out, but rather cold). We also saw the cats of parliament hill - I did not have a camera, but they were actually really adorable, although not too friendly. When we had had our fill of kittens, we were still too early for the bus. We decided to hang out in the lobby of Parliament for a couple minutes, but were stopped by a security worker at the entrance. "Are you here to see Parliament?" she asked us. "Actually," I said, "we just wanted to wait for the bus in the lobby for a moment." "Oh," she said. And then, "Well, it would be a hassle to take all your stuff off and have to put it back on again." "Yes it would," I said, and we left. I can't help but feel there was something very ironic about the whole thing.
Upon our return to Fatima's house, we made guacamole. Beautiful, wonderful, delicious guacamole. And summarily ate it while watching Memento. CAN I LIVE IN CHRIS NOLAN'S BRAIN ALREADY? oh man.
At 6:30, the adventure really started. Whatever disdain I feel for the Kingston transit system has been supplanted by my utter hatred of OC Transpo. We left an hour early for the bus terminal and I still missed my fucking bus. I was FUCKING pissed, but luckily, there was another guy who was in the same boat. So we spoke to the customer service assistant, who stamped our tickets and told us we could use them on the next bus to Kingston. Guess what? The last bus to Kingston left at 5:00 that afternoon. So I was stuck in Ottawa for another night. Fine, whatever, at least I didn't have to pay for an extra bus ticket.
OH WAIT. Got to the bus terminal this morning, and found out it was for GREYHOUND BUSES ONLY. So not only am I a day late getting back - which, hello, not like I have midterms or anything- but I'm down another $30 for a ticket I should not have had to buy. O HAI THAR NONEXISTENT GROCERY BUDGET. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
I'm trying really hard not to freak out about things, but I had my day planned out today, and I'm really fucking pissed at the money, and I feel awful cause all I've done this weekend is eat like a fucking pig and just. Fuck.
But for the most part, the weekend was awesome, and it was really nice to see Fatima and meet her housemates and everything. So. I'm glad I got to go.
